Before choosing a part

Compatibility essentials

Start with these documented details. Read the requirements with each answer before choosing a needle, bobbin or foot.

Foot attachment

Ordinary presser feet attach using snap-on soles.

Requirements and sources →
Foot holder / mount

The holder is secured to the presser bar by a setscrew. Turn off and unplug before adding or removing parts. Use the correct foot for the stitch to avoid needle breakage; follow the diagram because the sole-release wording is ambiguous. This does not establish a shank standard or interchangeable holder.

Requirements and sources →
Needle system / designation

130/705H, the needle system specified in this model's OEM workbook.

Requirements and sources →
Needle sizes by fabric and use

The January 2026 manual lists one blue-shank 11/75, two 11/75 and two 14/90 needles. It recommends Organ needles and separately discusses a blue-shank needle for flexible, very fine and synthetic fabrics. This is not a general size chart or a guarantee about your package; it does not establish brand-to-system equivalence.

What do you need help with?

Which controller and power-supply checks apply?

Before you use this answer

Check your machine’s rating plate before connecting it. The two controller-specific voltage ranges do not establish automatic dual-voltage operation, travel-adapter suitability or compatibility with a replacement pedal.

Documents and page references →

How are the presser-foot holder and extra lift described?

Before you use this answer

Switch off and unplug before adding or removing parts. The extra 0.6 cm is movement above the normal raised position, not total clearance or a fabric-thickness limit. The holder screw and sole-release wording do not establish a standard shank size or replacement-foot fit.

What needles and special-point guidance does this manual list?

Before you use this answer

Keep the older grouped workbook’s needle-system guidance separate from this model’s manual and its task-specific blue-shank recommendation. Check the fabric and needle chart; this is not permission to substitute every needle sold under a similar name or a guarantee of package contents.

More questions (2)

What should I check before changing thread tension?

Before you use this answer

Keep the manual’s zigzag example separate from its general tension examples: some needle thread beneath a zigzag is intended. There is no universal dial setting or bobbin-screw adjustment procedure in this answer.

Assortment and special point scope

  • The manual’s blue-tip or blue-shank wording applies to this model and edition. A brand name does not establish an equivalent needle system or universal substitution, and package contents may differ.
  • For bernette b35 and its English January 2026 fourth-edition manual only. Earlier workbook information and its limitations remain separate. Switch off for needle-area adjustments; switch off and unplug before maintenance, adding or removing parts, and changing the needle. These stronger instructions still apply where the care chapter says ‘off and/or unplug.’ Based on documentation reviewed using AI, without personal human review, hands-on testing, a rating-plate check or confirmation that replacement products fit. Use the complete manufacturer instructions and diagrams.

Bobbin

Case thread route

  • Use the original illustration’s viewing direction. This threading path does not identify bobbin class, material or diameter and does not include adjusting the case-tension screw.

Place the bobbin so thread unwinds in the illustrated arrow direction, take thread into the case slot, under its tension spring and through the delivery eye; leave about 4 in (10 cm) thread.

Drawing up lower thread

  • This procedure does not establish electronic needle-position memory or an automatic thread catcher.
  • For bernette b35 and its English January 2026 fourth-edition manual only. Earlier workbook information and its limitations remain separate. Presser foot

Lifter extra height

  • This is extra movement above the normal raised position. It is not total clearance, a fabric-thickness limit, shank height or a pressure adjustment.

The foot lever raises/lowers the foot and can be lifted about 1/4 in (0.6 cm) above the normal raised position to remove a foot or place heavy fabric underneath.

Holder screw and setup

  • The earlier snap-on sole description remains separate. This manual’s sole-release paragraph says ‘snap off the presser foot holder,’ while a separate section describes the screw-fastened holder. That wording remains ambiguous; it does not establish a standard shank size or compatibility with replacement feet.
  • For bernette b35 and its English January 2026 fourth-edition manual only. Earlier workbook information and its limitations remain separate. Switch off for needle-area adjustments; switch off and unplug before maintenance, adding or removing parts, and changing the needle. Use the complete manufacturer instructions and diagrams.

The holder has a setscrew into the threaded hole in the presser bar. Remove it counterclockwise and refit/tighten clockwise with a screwdriver. Use the foot appropriate to the stitch; wrong-foot clearance can break the needle.

Zipper application

  • On b35, the width-dial entry beside straight stitch A does not mean a 5 mm-wide zigzag. The foot-pin attachment side and an interchangeable third-party zipper-foot part number are not identified here.
  • For bernette b35 and its English January 2026 fourth-edition manual only. Earlier workbook information and its limitations remain separate. Switch off for needle-area adjustments; switch off and unplug before maintenance, adding or removing parts, and changing the needle. Blind hem guide and conflict

  • The b35 blind-hem chapter gives tension 2–4 for D/E, while the overview gives 1–3 for E. Its E-width entry ‘5*’ also has a maximum 2 mm footnote. These restrictions and disagreements remain unresolved; no preferred setting or complete reconciled procedure is supplied here.

Fold as illustrated, set the needle’sleft swing to only catch the fold and adjust the foot guide screw to the fold. Sew along the guide. The chapter and overview give differing tension values for the ordinary blind stitch; retain both rather than choose a universal setting.

Rolled hem setup

  • This does not describe a 5 mm-wide straight stitch, establish a universal finished hem width or transfer the b05 hemmer’s four-thread wording. Follow the separate thread-handling, power-isolation and clearance requirements.

Use A, hemmer foot, tension 2–6, length 2 and the table’s width-dial entry 5. Trim the corner 0.5 × 0.8 cm, double-fold 0.3 cm over 6 cm, sew a few stitches, stop needle-down, raise the foot and introduce the fold into the foot curl; lower and guide evenly.

Buttonhole

Automatic size and preparation

  • The limit refers to button diameter, not the b05’s 3 cm buttonhole claim. The adjustable button-holder gap and the forbidden slider/spring-holder gap are different places; follow both instructions.

The sliding foot’srear holder sets the buttonhole size and takes a button up to 1 in (2.5 cm) diameter. Test thick buttons and, if necessary, leave a holder gap to lengthen the hole. Lower the buttonhole lever fully. Keep no gap between the slider and spring holder to avoid unequal sides.

Operator stop repeat and density

  • Automatic buttonhole formation does not guarantee that the motor stops at the end. The pictured reset is the mechanical buttonhole selector reset, not a factory reset, electronic memory or firmware operation.

The manual says it automatically forms front bartack, left row, rear bartack and right row, then tells the operator to stop at the ending point. To repeat, turn the selector to the visually marked reset position and back to the buttonhole symbol; raise the lever fully after finishing. Length knob right gives coarser density, left tighter.

Upper tension diagnosis

  • Keep the zigzag example separate from the general tension examples: some needle thread beneath a zigzag is intended. Thread visible underneath is not always a fault. No bobbin-screw procedure or universal tension setting is supplied here.

The manual’sideal zigzag has no bobbin thread on the right side and a little needle thread on the wrong side. Its general too-tight example lowers the dial if bobbin thread shows on top; its too-loose example raises the dial if needle thread shows underneath.

Stretch balance and length

  • The earlier S/red stretch-stitch selection guidance remains separate. This answer describes the mechanical balance adjustment and range, not an electronic reset or a stored program.

Higher length-dial numbers make longer stitches; the zigzag length range is 0.5–4. For stretch-pattern balance, turn toward minus to condense and plus to expand; the later stretch chapter says expand condensed stitches with plus and condense expanded stitches with minus.

Reverse and manual securing

  • This does not establish an automatic securing program or a reverse lever that stays engaged by itself. When using the sliding buttonhole foot, the manual separately directs the thread ends to the left.
  • For bernette b35 and its English January 2026 fourth-edition manual only. Earlier workbook information and its limitations remain separate. Switch off for needle-area adjustments; switch off and unplug before maintenance, adding or removing parts, and changing the needle. Decorative

Shell and smocking

  • These are separate stitch-letter and mode instructions. The manual’s hand-wound elastic bobbin-thread example does not approve a substitute bobbin or establish a general bobbin-tension procedure.

Vari-overlock F uses the zigzag foot, tension 2–6, length 2–3, width 5. Smocking C uses S, tension 1–4, width 5. For shell edging, use lightweight fabric folded/on bias and let the needle clear the folded edge. For smocking, straight-length 4 gathering rows are 1 cm apart; pull bobbin threads, secure, decorate between rows and remove gathering stitches.

Feed from the back of the spool into the top guide, down through tension and around the check-spring holder, up through take-up right-to-left, down through the head guide right-to-left and the guide on the left of the needle bar; thread the needle front-to-back.

Needle threader sequence

  • Switch off for needle-area work. This does not establish a powered threader, permission to thread twin needles with it, or its minimum needle size.

Raise the needle fully, lower the threader fully and turn it away so its hook passes through the eye from behind. Take thread around the guide and beneath the hook; turn the threader toward you and release slowly while holding the end to draw a loop through the eye.

Troubleshooting

Stitch thread and feed checks

  • These are possible causes to check, not a diagnosis of your machine or permission to adjust timing or bobbin-case tension. Keep the special-needle guidance and switch off or unplug as required before setup work.

Use the complete manufacturer instructions and diagrams.

The table checks thread routes/tension, needle condition/insertion/size, needle-thread match and correct starting tails. Bobbin-thread breaks can involve wrong case threading, lint or a damaged bobbin; replace a damaged bobbin. Poor feed points to lint or an overly fine stitch; puckering can call for a shorter stitch.

No run noise and clutch

  • Do not force a jam with the power on. Pulling the handwheel is not a sewing mode. This answer does not diagnose an electrical fault or establish an interlock.

Check power connection, thread jam in the shuttle race and a disengaged clutch caused by a pulled-out handwheel. Noise can involve thread or lint in the race; use the specified isolated cleaning procedure.

Uneven bobbin adjustment limit

  • This concerns only the illustrated bobbin-winder adjustment, not the bobbin-case tension screw. Follow the full isolation instructions and diagram; it is not a standalone service guide or a calibration guarantee.

The adjustment row says clockwise when thread builds toward the top and counterclockwise when it builds toward the bottom. Do not turn the illustrated adjusting screw more than one full turn because parts may detach.

Care, setup & service references

Use the full source procedure and its safety precautions. A short referenced answer is not a substitute for service documentation or qualified electrical/mechanical repair.

Service-manual availability and service-only procedures remain unestablished unless separately cataloged and reviewed.

Coverage and source-review limits

Model-specific documents support selected answers. Their requirements and unanswered questions remain; substitutions and third-party compatibility have not been confirmed.

Still to confirm

An unanswered question does not mean a part is incompatible. We have not confirmed enough information to recommend it.

Other names, regional versions, production history, further specifications and documents are not fully covered here. Their absence is not a “none exist” finding.
