Read the model-specific requirements with each answer before choosing parts.
Use standard household sewing-machine needles.
Push the needle fully upward with its flat side facing away from you.
Do not use blunt or damaged needles; check frequently for barbed or blunt points.
With power off and needle highest, lower threader fully; its hook passes through the eye from behind. Take thread from left around guide and under hook, hold the tail while slowly releasing knob, then pull the rear loop through.
Place the bobbin in its case, guide thread through the front notch and tension spring, then into the side notch.
Insert the bobbin case with its knob next to the stopper in the hook-assembly area.
The reviewed passages do not state a standardized bobbin class or system.
Bobbin dimensions, profile, material and substitution equivalence are not established.
The manual names a hook-assembly area but does not establish standardized hook orientation or drive.
Pull the handwheel out so the needle does not move. Guide thread through winding tension disk and through bobbin from inside to outside; place with tail at top and move spindle right while stopped. Hold tail for a few turns, stop/trim, then wind until automatic full stop. Move spindle left, trim and push handwheel in. Large/narrow spools use corresponding large/small holders; vertical pin uses felt below the spool.
Power off; foot up, hold needle thread lightly left. Turn handwheel toward you one full turn and pull upper thread to raise bobbin loop. Draw10cm(4in)of both threads backward under the foot.
Ordinary presser feet snap onto the machine’s presser-foot ankle.
The presser-foot lift has an extra 0.6 cm (1/4 inch) raised position for heavy fabric or foot removal.
The reviewed passages do not establish whether the presser-foot ankle or holder is owner-removable.
The reviewed passages do not state a standardized low-, high- or other shank class.
Snap-on attachment and the visible thumbscrew do not establish generic low-shank screw-on-foot compatibility.
No third-party adapter compatibility is established.
The standard list names Utility Feet A/B, Buttonhole C, Adjustable Blind Hem, Zipper E, Non-stick Glide H, Edging J and Automatic Buttonhole R. Model122 additionally lists Transparent B, Quilter’s1/4in Piecing P and Gathering feet. Other listed items include glide plates, edge/quilting guide, needles, bobbins, screwdriver, lint brush, seam ripper, large/small spool holders, vertical pin and felt; storage opens in the extension table.
The pressure dial recommendation is3for regular sewing,2for appliqué/cutwork/basting,1for stretch fabrics/chiffon/lace/organdy/other fine fabrics, and0for free motion.
When using Edging Foot J for three-step zigzag, make sure the needle does not strike the pin in the foot’s needle hole. Guide the stitch over the fabric edge for the illustrated overcasting use.
Pattern1,width5,length1.5–4,tension3–6,Foot E. Left zipper side uses the foot’s right bar; right side uses left bar. In the illustrated sequence stop before the slider, lower needle slightly into fabric, raise foot/open zipper, lower foot and continue. Restore length/tension after basting before zipper stitching.
Place the folded hem so its edge is at the left side of the guide when needle swings left. Use the orange dial to move the foot side-to-side until the wide stitch barely catches the fold. Open and press after sewing.
The guide recommends H for foam,plastic,plastic-coated fabrics, leather and imitation leather, including general sewing and buttonholes on plastic/leather-type fabrics. Select stitch/settings from the reference chart.
Slide guide into the clip on the ankle, adjust laterally for required spacing, then guide it over the preceding stitch row.
For satin-stitch appliqué,taper/decorative stitches; choose desired length. Its underside tunnel clears stitches; transparent body/red guides aid visibility. Snap on,select satin/decorative stitch, and stabilize as needed.
For light/medium fabric use straight stitch, left needle,length4. Higher upper tension tightens gathers. For one-step attachment, gathered fabric goes below right-side-up and receiving fabric in groove right-side-down; guide lower fabric without holding it back and keep top moving in groove. Longer length/higher upper tension increase gathering.
Quilter’s1/4in Piecing Foot P is for a scant1/4in seam. Red marks indicate1/4in and1/8in pivot references before/behind needle. Use straight stitch,length2.0–2.5; fabric right sides together, edge at foot edge. For a1/4in-end pivot, stop needle-down at the first red mark.
Specifications apply to the named model and document edition. Read any setup, fabric or safety requirements with the answer.
Free arm available after removing the extension table.
Sewing speed responds to the foot control and is capped by a speed-control slide.
A needle up/down button changes the needle stop position.
The machine sews in reverse only while the reverse lever is held down.
It relates fabric/technique to stitch, length, width, thread tension, presser foot and pressure. Its stretch-seam example uses zigzag length1.5and width1.5. Basting can leave permanent holes in leather/vinyl; blind hems are not recommended for lightweight fabric or leather/vinyl.
Raise needle above fabric and presser foot before turning pattern or length dial. Set the pattern number at the mark; higher length number means longer stitch. Stretch patterns require the stretch setting; buttonhole density uses the illustrated buttonhole-marked band.
Within the stretch range, turn the length dial toward minus for spread-out stitches and toward plus for stitches close together.
Straight-stitch position varies from center at5to left at0. For wider stitch patterns a higher width number means wider stitch; raise needle above fabric/foot before changing the dial.
Balanced straight stitches lock between two fabric layers. For zigzag, bobbin thread stays off the top while needle thread may show slightly underneath. Bobbin thread on top calls for a lower upper-tension number; excessive needle thread underneath calls for higher. Materials, layers and sewing method affect setting.
Use the drop-feed lever at the back of the free arm in the illustrated directions. After returning to raised position, turn the handwheel toward you or start sewing to bring the teeth up. They must be up for regular sewing.
Brush dust and lint from the feed teeth and hook-assembly area; a vacuum may also be used.
Clean the exterior with a soft cloth and mild soap.
Do not dismantle the machine beyond the procedures explained in the owner-care section.
Emerald118/122:12V,5W; draw out slowly to remove and push in to replace. Turn off, unplug and let bulb cool; remove cap/screw/face plate only as illustrated. Replace with the same type/rating.
For no operation:check connection, thread caught in hook, and spindle left in winding position. For poor feeding:check lint-packed feed teeth,too-short stitch, and teeth left lowered after drop-feed sewing.
This edition lists foot-control Model21361 for Emerald118 and122, at120V or230–240V.
Place fabric along a guide, lower needle at start, lower foot and draw tails back; guide gently while machine feeds. Stop and use the Needle Up/Down button to put the needle into the fabric before lifting foot to pivot. Lower foot to resume. Finish with several reverse stitches, lift foot/draw fabric and threads back, then use the thread cutter.
Distances are measured from the center needle position. Table pairs:15→1.5cm;20→2.0cm;4/8→1.3cm;5/8→1.6cm;6/8→1.9cm. The5/8in cornering sequence uses the illustrated corner guide and1.6cm(5/8in)line.
Pattern1,width0or5,length stretch,tension2–5,Utility Foot A. It is described as triple and elastic for heavy stretch fabrics, strained crotch seams and heavy-fabric topstitching.
Pattern2,width to match holes, any length,tension3–7,feed teeth down. Place foot ankle between holes and turn handwheel to verify hole clearance. Sew5–6stitches, width0to secure, then raise feed teeth. Do not use this technique for buttons smaller than1cm(3/8in).
Foot R sizes from a button up to2.5cm(1in)diameter; width4–5,tension3–5,and buttonhole-marked length band. Test on duplicate fabric/interfacing/seams and use stabilizer under all fabric. Pull lever fully down, tails left, needle at start, lower foot; slider must meet front stop without gap. Sew slowly and stop at start after completion. Knot tails on wrong side and protect bartack with pin before cutting; raise lever when done. Thick buttons may need a longer test hole by moving holder back.
With foot raised, place filler cord over rear spur, under foot and into front notches. Tails left; lower needle/foot at start and sew gently over cord with the automatic sequence. Tighten left cord end, take it to wrong side with darning needle and cut; open hole using the protected-bartack method. Settings:width4–5,tension3–5,buttonhole pattern/length band,Foot R.
For button diameter over2.5cm(1in), use the manual method with Foot C and lever fully down. Draw tails left/lower needle and foot at start. Sew front bartack and left column to desired length and stop; pull lever toward you, then sew back bartack and right column to start and stop. Raise lever fully when finished.
Power off, presser foot raised and needle up: pass the thread from the spool through the thread guide, then draw it down the right slot, around bottom of guide plate, right-to-left over take-up and into its eye, then from left behind needle-bar guide; use the illustrated needle threader.
Use the full source procedure and its safety precautions. A short referenced answer is not a substitute for service documentation or qualified electrical/mechanical repair.
Service-manual availability and service-only procedures remain unestablished unless separately cataloged and reviewed.
Answers use this model and its named instruction-manual edition, reusing the source author’s checks and automated text verification. Formal shank type, bobbin class/material/dimensions, hook classification, needle-system equivalence and replacement products remain unconfirmed unless separately stated.
