Needle, bobbin & presser-foot details

Read the model-specific requirements with each answer before choosing parts.

Needle

Needle insertion

  • Turn the machine off before changing the needle.
  • Literal documentary answer only; full illustrated source and its safety instructions control. No sales-unit fitment, family identity equivalence or hands-on experience is claimed.

The flat side faces the back; insert the needle fully upward and secure the clamp.

Sources and pages

Threader sequence

  • Turning the handwheel backward can cause a subsequent jam. This section does not establish numerical threader needle-size limits; do not transfer C430 limits.
  • Exact retained model/edition only; follow the complete illustrated instructions. Switch off for manual needle, foot and threading adjustments; unplug before user maintenance. Documented powered automatic controls require their stated sequence and hands clear.
  • Evidence is limited to this model and manual edition. No alias or identity equivalence, or retail replacement-fit verdict is established.

Power off; raise needle highest by handwheel toward you. Lower threader fully so its hook enters the eye, take thread around left guide and under hook, then release lever and tail together. Pull the rear loop through and leave 6–8 in behind.

Sources and pages

Wear interval

  • This is a general recommendation, not a guaranteed needle lifespan. Match needle style and size to the fabric; no formal needle-system equivalence is established.

Replace bent, damaged or dull needles, or when snags/popping indicate wear; generally after 4 projects or approximately 16 sewing hours.

Sources and pages

Bobbin

Loading orientation

  • Switch off before inserting or removing the bobbin.
  • Follow the complete illustrated slit/guide and securely seated case sequence.
  • Literal documentary answer only; full illustrated source and its safety instructions control. No sales-unit fitment, family identity equivalence or hands-on experience is claimed.

The thread runs clockwise with the bobbin held in its removable case.

Sources and pages

Winding sequence

  • Use SINGER Class 15 transparent bobbins; do not substitute metal bobbins. Follow the full illustrated guide path.

Use a spool cap large enough to cover the spool end, smaller cap for narrow spools; snap through guide A and snugly around tension disc B. Thread/place bobbin, push it down firmly and move spindle right. Hold tail for a few slow turns, stop and trim close, then continue. When full it stops winding: release pedal, move left, trim and remove.

Sources and pages

Case route and seating

  • Switch off first. If the thread does not click or the case is loose, tilted or not fully seated, re-seat it as illustrated before sewing. Load the bobbin clockwise. No case part-number or hook-system inference.

Route thread into side slit A and underneath the metal guide until it exits the bottom opening and clicks; pull in illustrated direction B. Hold the loaded case by its latch toward you, place its metal extension at 12 o’clock and seat securely before releasing the latch.

Sources and pages

Draw up

  • If no loop appears, turn toward you once more, then check for thread trapped by compartment/hinged cover.

With power off, hold the upper tail left and turn handwheel toward you through needle down/up; gently pull upper thread to draw the bobbin loop through the plate. Both tails go under the foot toward the back.

  • Evidence is limited to this model and manual edition. No alias or identity equivalence, or retail replacement-fit verdict is established.

The listed assortment includes All Purpose Foot, Button Sewing Foot, Buttonhole Foot, L-screwdriver, seam-ripper/brush, needle pack, darning plate and two spool-holder sizes. Use SINGER Class 15 transparent bobbins.

Sources and pages

Optional shank removal

  • Switch off and raise the foot first. The manual describes a low shank with snap-on feet; this does not establish blanket fit for optional attachments.

Some optional feet require removing the shank: loosen/remove the screw securing it to the bar, remove the shank, then reverse and replace the screw to restore it.

Specifications & documented facts

Specifications apply to the named model and document edition. Read any setup, fabric or safety requirements with the answer.

Care

Cleaning and oiling reference

  • Unplug before cleaning.
  • Use the complete illustrated disassembly/reassembly sequence; this is a documentary reference, not a stand-alone service procedure.
  • Literal documentary answer only; full illustrated source and its safety instructions control. No sales-unit fitment, family identity equivalence or hands-on experience is claimed.

For daily use, the guide recommends weekly cleaning and oiling and illustrates one drop of sewing-machine oil at the hook center pin and hook race.

Sources and pages

Hook refitting

  • Use all the diagrams and retain the daily-use weekly cleaning/oiling recommendation and illustrated single-drop oil locations. LED replacement needs go to a local service agent. No internal timing, hook classification or service repair is authorized.

Unplug, raise needle/foot, remove plate screws and case; brush feed teeth, swing retaining arms outward and lift race cover/hook. After the illustrated single-drop oiling, turn handwheel toward you to put the race half-moon left; fit hook by center pin half-moon right, restore cover/arms/case/bobbin, then plate and tightened screws.

The guide says it will not operate when the foot control is disconnected. More pressure increases sewing speed; releasing it stops the machine.

Sources and pages

Upper tension

  • Recommendations depend on fabric/thread/task; not an automatic-tension claim. Large underside loops require rethreading checks rather than blind bobbin adjustment.

The dial ranges 0–9; most sewing uses 3–5. Higher increases upper tension, lower decreases it. Reduce if bobbin thread shows on top; loosen for basting and increase for gathering. Balanced stitches interlock between fabric layers.

Sources and pages

Pattern dials

  • Dial settings and task ranges do not establish formal global maximum stitch width/length. No shared-manual/model equivalence.

Click the selector under the blue arrow. Black patterns use length 0.5–4, with 4 the longest setting; straight-stitch width is the center mark between 2/3. Blue stretch patterns require length S1 and generally a wide 3–5 width setting, reducible for appearance.

Sources and pages

Straight needle positions

  • Straight-stitch setting only; not an enumerated position count or global maximum.

Toward 0 moves it left; toward 5 moves it right; the mark between 2 and 3 centers it.

Troubleshooting

Threading resistance

  • Power off for manual threading. This check is for incorrect upper threading/underside loops; not a bobbin-tension adjustment or universal fault diagnosis.

Thread with foot up; before passing thread under foot, it should pull freely left. Lower foot: pulling left should now meet resistance. If still free in both positions, remove upper thread and rethread, then route both tails backward under foot.

Feed failure

  • Listed possible causes, not exhaustive diagnosis or feed-dog-height/service adjustment.

Lower the presser foot, remove the darning plate if fitted, and increase a zero stitch-length setting. Let feed teeth move the fabric rather than pushing/pulling it.
